Let's eat!

While on vacation last month I had blue cheese with almost every meal. They had quite a variety of blues including Stilton. Didn't see any Gorgonzola.

Local pub makes a great blue cheese burger, know I'll be there next week while my Sis is visiting. We'll also have hot chips, freshly made potato chips to dip in blue cheese sauce.

Each Monday morning, my start of the work week pick up breakfast is a large flat white coffee (milky coffee) and a warm date scone.

Well, never heard of the term before (country-specific?). Sure looks filling.

Can you describe it?

Looks like macaroni, fried potato, beef/onion, bacon?

The trademarked "Garbage Plate" originated at Nick Tahou's in Rochester, NY and has become a Western NY regional dish. It appears to have shown up in Florida, too. I've seen it served at a wedding reception... :eek My wife used to cater concerts in western NY and several musicians had Garbage Plates on their riders for the green room when they did shows there. If you go to Buffalo, you have to have wings from the Anchor bar. If you go to Rochester, you have to have a plate from Nick Tahou's.

You get a choice of two of these: home fries, french fries, baked beans, pasta (macaroni) salad. Topped with two: Eggs, cheeseburger patties, hamburger patties, hot dogs (red or white) or sausages. Topped with a meat sauce and onions, plus whatever else you want for condiments. Lots of choices and variations. I'm not a fan of the macaroni salad, myself, so I order beans and home fries usually with cheeseburger patties.

That must have been an interesting wedding (?)

Can't say this is something I'd order but it's always good to try new things at least once in life.

I bought myself a sous vide cooker, happy birthday to me! There's a salmon filet cooking right now, will let you know how it works out.

The salmon was tasty, browned it in a bit of butter. Tender, moist, and flakey. Got the cooker at Wallyworld. Don't think I'll use it for eggs, an hour is too long to spend on cooking eggs.

Tonight it's a 6 lb. chicken in the schlemmertopf ceramic cooker. I finally found the cooker in a box in the basement and since it's cold out I don't have any worries about running the oven for an hour and a half. Chicken's got onions, carrots, celery, herbs and spices stuffed up its butt. On the side will be mushroom rice pilaf and a veg. Peach upside down cake for dessert.

I might wash some half pint jars and try sous vide custard for tomorrow.

Today it's onion & beef soup! :DukeGirl

I had originally planned for beef & onion soup, but somehow ended up with 4lb of onion and only 1lb of beef. :fp

Still very tasty! :wings

Almost sounds like classic onion soup..
Is a beef stock based ...

I never can eat good onion soup out ...
Because it's an animal base

While in Melbourne, if you have the time, try The Langham (chef Christy Tania) for amazing (world-class, think Michelin-star quality) desserts... :thumb

Also consider Om Nom (at the Adelphi) which was her original restaurant before she choofed off to the new place.

:eek :DukeGirl :eek :DukeGirl :eek :DukeGirl

We hit up Om Nom 3-ish years ago... at the time they had desserts and cocktails, basically that was it. Fantabulous! They had Christie for the desserts and some other star chef/barman for the cocktails. Plates were $25-$35 and so were the cocktails. Now that's a lot, but it's bargain-basement for Michelin-star quality. And well worth it for the experience!
