Thanksgiving Alternatives

Post by GrouchyGeezer »

I don't like turkey. I can tolerate turkey lunch-meat, but little else. I don't even like to smell turkey cooking; I leave the house. I have suggested may other things for Thanksgiving dinners. When I last suggested pizza, it was made clear to keep my suggestions to myself. And don't get me started on ground turkey. That stuff is just plain evil.

So, I'm gently suggesting slightly different alternatives to the tradition roast turkey. This one seems like it might be okay.

I usually take a very, very. small piece of turkey, I'm saving room for the pie. :drool

Not going to make the investment necessary, for a once a year event, to find out.

I feel peace going to the grave without ever tasting deep-fried turkey. :Augie

I think you should be sentenced to open every link that DrLewall posts! :DirtDOG

The turkey thing: The selling point for a turkey product is that it doesn't taste like turkey? I think that reinforces my dislike of the beast. I could be wrong, but I have never heard of a food product being promoted that "it tastes like turkey". :dontknow

They dress out from 35 - 60 lbs !

I don't think I would fry one myself. There is a restaurant/catering business here that sells them for Thanksgiving (probably Christmas too). When my parents were still alive, we'd get the turkey there.

Many, many moons ago I had a course in Epidemiology. You can't take a course like that and ever buy large chunks of deep-fried meats from anyone. :eek

Popeye's is advertising Cajun turkeys for the holidays. Don't know if they're fried but if they're as good as the spicy chicken...

I really, really like the Prime Rib idea (thanks Condolini), I'm going to try to pitch this idea to Mrs, Geezer when I get back to MI.
