I'm an absolute nobody in the grand scheme of things, both here *and* there.

If people are just not that involved (even from a user perspective...) on those sorts of details, then that job is left to those at a higher paygrade than mine. Like the people that own the place today still have yet to publicly post a banner message with the details of the transaction.

Thus, the new owner is obfuscating for as long as they can get away with.

The exodus from the place seems to be starting. Time to watch Rome burn, I suppose.

I truly suspect that's the majority of users at that establishment.
Hey, you're somebody to me, mister!

VS also purchased Thumper Talk and Plowsite last December; there was a post to the community at large about it on those sites as there is on almost every VS acquisition.

The lack of any announcement is odd.

I suspect it will come with the imminent changeover to VS Fora.

Again, I am uncharacteristically optimistic about this development; it's time for advrider to move forward, even if that is in dissolution.

Yes, there was a single post, started by a VS employee, that began the discussion about the change in ownership.

Many (myself included...) thought that it would have *also* been advised that a post be put up on the homepage, with follow-up discussion in the forum itself.

Yes, they're trying NOT to scare away the users, but that horse has bolted from the barn. I'm sure the admins here and other alternate realities are seeing the influx of users over the last week or two.

Do a google search "advrider verticalscope". The internet forums are all a buzz with the news. None of it positive.

Of course.

As we *all* know, from a powersports marketing perspective, they were one of the 'big dogs' in the forum space continuum. Many of us would hang out at forums dedicated to our particular brand/style of bike, but there was always ADV to chat up riders of *most* types of bikes. In one place.

Sure, some of the H-D based forums might be roughly equivalent in size, but there was only one ADV - and the fact that it's been around as long as it has...we all recognize why that happened.

With this announcement, there will naturally be some 'buzz' in the space about the transaction - there always will be. I really hope Drac is right, but having lived thru a few changes made by that corporation, smaller spaces might not be such a bad thing.

I was / am a mod on the V-RodForum, renamned 1130CC.com after complaints from the Copyrite bitch at HD, which was purchased by VerticalScope a few years back. At one time there were several thousand members. We were constantly whacking political moles, right and left (mostly left), but the new owners quickly got rid of all non-directly motorcycle related subjects. I suspect the same will happen to ADV. Less advertising opportunities in inter-personal discussions.
I'll miss some of CSM and JM, but not the leftwing bias so evident in the past. And since I have so many on ignore, I won't miss the diatrabe that I can't see now.

Someone on adv said that VS uses 'discourager' software which will give problematic users a degraded experience.

Most forum software packages have that feature. If not, it can be added. To me, it's the chickens way of managing a forum.

Just curious, is this degraded experience any worse than the normal ad saturated experience? :dontknow

MOD bot.. I work with them on a site .
I don't use them.. I like to keep the time outs on a personal level.
But first a warning , then a day ban.. and so on.

But it is nice to use a MOD bot on a person that is a problem..
As they are programed , so we can let a bot keep an eye on that person, And that frees us up to watch everyone else

I use uBlock Origin, too. I do my best to live an ad free life. But I have seen screen caps of the horror show of ads that the majority see. :eek

There are a lot of erroneous conclusions being arrived on advrider.com.

Tge degraded service has more to do with the site having been transferred from one server to another and the amount of time it is taking for the indexes to rebuild.

Discourage software has always been at advrider.com since it moved to zenforo.

It is not unique to VS.

The amount of histeria is both amusing and pathetic in my view.

At least wait until the borgs realky strike. They've not done so yet.

What would advrider be without the Drama Llama ?? :lol8

I will say, though, that the forum moderators seem suddenly more patient.

Once,I asked Ian,politely, for a cleanup of some political crap in a Garage thread of mine.

Result: I was banned; he " wasn't looking for any suggestions ", iirc.

And who the hell is this guy ...ken..., all of a sudden ??

I'm curious when VS will convert Advrider to their own Fora template.

That is sure to cause some head explosions.
