Memorial Cap 110
https://azmartinique.com/en/where-to-go ... al-cap-110
Cap 110 is a memorial erected in memory of slavery. It was built at Anse Caffard during the sesquicentennial of the abolition of slavery in 1998 by Laurent Valere, a painter and sculptor of Martinique. The choice of Anse Caffard is not trivial.

This is indeed the edge of the Anse Caffard (which owes its name to Jean Caffard a colon) a ship carrying 300 slaves ran aground in a storm on the rocks of the coast on the night of April 8, 1830. Now at that time, the slave trade was illegal since 1817. The boat was completely destroyed what prevented him from knowing his name and find its source. Only six bodies were recovered.

The bodies of the sailors were buried in the cemetery and those slaves were buried near the shore. 86 slaves, 26 men and 60 women were rescued from the wreck and transferred to Fort-de-France.

The 15 busts were built of reinforced concrete and bleached with sand of Trinidad and Tobago. Their weight is about 4 tons to a height of 2.5 meters. All represent the same face bent in the meaning, worn, distressed, downcast eyes to the earth and the sea. They are the anonymous victims of processed trade, the slave trade, which lasted three centuries (17th to 19th century ) between Europe, Africa and the Americas.

Well, it was my first Christmas in the Caribbean and even during my years on the African coast I had never photographed a sandman.

I wonder where Kristof is headed? Learning Spanish does not align to heading for Turkey?

Should be an interesting trip :nod

I'm in Istanbul just for a week with my family and then I'm going back across the Atlantic.
At 2000km from Martinique.
Initially, I wanted to stay in the region but:
- because of the non-recognition of the Sputnik vaccine my wife and son could not come to see me in Martinique (...)
France, unlike Cyprus or Hungary, does not recognize this vaccine... :wall
- plus the flight connections to my next project are not so obvious, it is "easier" to return to France and then go back to my destination... :wall

And yes I confirm you, it should be an interesting trip, I thought to land on the airport near the site, but no the flight goes to the capital and then 5h drive to go on the project.

About the new port:
On my first visit to the dock, there was no fence, so I was surprised to find one the next day!!
There is an explanation, it is a relatively heavy system because the panels are raised hydraulically and there is a small barrier on the side of the boats but as it is specified in this article it is "hermetic" and the boat is isolated.
--------------------------------------------------------------

Galataport Istanbul offers advanced cruise facilities, such as the world’s first underground cruise ship terminal. The 29,000 sq. meter Galataport Istanbul Cruise Ship Terminal is designed with a unique hatch system and creates a temporary customs area while a ship is in port, which converts Istanbul’s port into a promenade in an area that has been closed to public access for 200 years. After the ship departs, the coastline is left free.

Galataport Istanbul is capable of accommodating three ships and 15,000 passengers a day. Cruise activities are scheduled to start in September 2021 with the Eurodam, Costa Crociere, Norwegian Cruise Line, Viking Cruises and Regent Seven Seas Cruises, among others.

Here we are, after the medical examinations (insurance) and the signature of the contract, tomorrow January 13 it is the departure, I return in the Caribbean in fact on the largest island :Augie
When I was in Martinique I hoped to be able to stay in the area but no, I had to return to Paris.
Moreover I was not yet 100% sure of my destination following the "big contract" signed mid-December in Saudi Arabia
(https://qiddiya.com/)
---------------------------------------------------
I could make the whole tour of Martinique, by the coast, in the day it will not be the case in Cuba
at today's date, I should stay only one night in Havana and then 8 hours of road to join Cayo Coco:

01/14 - Havana
Half a day of meetings and then free afternoon, Saturday free all day and it is only Sunday morning that I take the road (8 hours) to join Cayo Coco, so this afternoon I took the favorite cab of the tourists namely an "old American" to make the tour of Havana, including the small streets of old Havana.
It was a tour just to get acquainted with the city and then to be able to find my way around. Tomorrow I will return to the pedestrian part of Old Havana.

I toured Cuba a few years ago shortly before the travel ban and struck up a conversation with one of the old car owners. He had a 50 something Chevy four door. It looked like new. But under the hood was a three cylinder tractor diesel with a two speed transmission. It looked so little in the cavernous Chevy engine compartment.

This is the "system" that is becoming widespread in the world, in Istanbul the majority of restaurants used a QR code for their menus, but it is a problem when you do not have access to the internet ...
