Rain let up, forecast looks good, so we took a friend from Washington DC out to the coast for a picnic yesterday.
Loaded up the old folding camp table in the Land Cruiser so we could have our own spot with a view from the parking lot.

Yes, a parking lot.

Image

Stopped and picked up some Spud Point Crab Shack clam chowder and sandwiches for an excellent lunch.

Then we took a hike around Bodega Head and enjoyed the weather that was perfect. Left the coats in the truck and wore T-shirts.

:dontknow Maybe because it would be contrary to their business model: Keep the audience anxious and angry so they keep tuning in to watch the constant a̶d̶v̶e̶r̶t̶i̶s̶e̶m̶e̶n̶t̶s̶ breaking updates.

Thought I would get one last ride in for the year yesterday, and headed out since the sun was out.
Cold, but with gear it was fine. All of the rain let up for a couple of days (starting again on Monday) and the weather looked perfect.
Guess the plant life likes it too. Mustard is starting to bloom in the Valley.

NZ sustained damage at a number of marinas. People heard the zonic booms as the shock wave passed over NZ too.

Caught up around the house here this morning and the wife says...
"Why don't you go for a motorcycle ride?"
:letsfide

Took me about six minutes to get the bike out and ready.

Image

Headed up to the usual back roads to avoid the weekend tourists.

A little cloudy and cool, but it was hot last week and expected to be 103 by Wednesday. Even felt a few rain drops for a very nice ride.

While back the younger neighbor comes over and asks, "Know anything about outboards?"
:fp
"What kind?"
Him - "I don't know!"
"How big is it?"
Him - "I don't know!"
"What type of boat is it on?"
Him - "I don't know!"
"Does it run now?"
Him - "I don't know!"

Me - "You just bought a boat didn't you?"
Him - "I don't know, maybe."
:patch

Great neighbors, who also happen to be the parents of our neighborhood pseudo grand daughter, so I thought I'd a fatherly figure and help him out with my previous experience of boat repair. He sends me a picture finally and I use my Google Foo to decipher that it's a 1995 Rinker 18' inboard/outboard (stern drive) with a Mercruiser Alpha One Gen II outdrive.
"GREAT! Do you work on those?" :fp

Guess what wound up in my garage.
Image

Image

But he's very thankful and is paying me some cash and beer. :Snork

And....... of course we had to check it out on the lake together with the wives.
Image

Image

But I haven't seen the beer yet........

Hitting the road again next week, heading back down to Arizona for a ride. Spending the weekend cleaning up the trailer and checking out all the camping supplies.

Dear Snowflake;
Thank you for reminding me. :fp

The End.
:lol8

OK, it was a memorable trip. Not the greatest memories, but memories none the less.
Camping plans halfway down were squashed by the weather reports of excessive heat in everyplace I was planning on camping. Original plan was to camp at the Amboy Crater, but it was supposed to "cool off" to 101 degrees by 9 at night. So I just kept on going across the Mojave with the windows up and the A/C on.

Image

As I was passing Edwards Air Force Base, saw an old restored C47 taking off and then crossing Hwy 58 as I was talking to my uncle on the phone. Told him about it and the old Navy stories started flowing abnout riding in one of those aluminum cans during the Korean War. It's that tiny little dot in the blue sky, phone camera, hate me.
Image

Looked for a less expensive gas station in Needles Ca, but there is no such thing. $6.29 per gallon ($1.66 USD per Liter Snowflake) and found the old 66.
Image

Arrived at my buddy's place around 9:30 at night, and as I was getting directions on where to park the truck & trailer, his dog decided that he HAD to piss on a fresh tire. Never saw the dog, pulled forward, and .......
YELP, YELP, YELP, YELP!!!
:eek
Midnight Vet run and Sammy had no broken bones, but an open wound tear under his left front shoulder. :fp

Thursday morning brought the need for coffee after a long night, and Jon had a dentist appointment to Prescott first thing. See the Doc, and then headed to shopping at the gun store for supplies for Friday. Lots of ammo.
Friday was a low key day with four of us heading to a range and trying out new custom made spring loaded targets of .5" plate steel. They ring very well.
Some of the toys we used, and we all wore ear protection for a very good reason.
Image

It wasn't as hot as the Mojave, but it did reach into the upper 90's most of the day. Elle decided that she was going to remind me of running over Sammy for the rest of the weekend by melting under my trailer during the heat of the day.
Image

Other riders arrived from all over, stories were told, lies were evident, beer flowed, and all had fun to a point.

Image

Saturday's ride was split up into three groups going different directions. Five of us took a north/east route for some altitude and relief from the heat. Dust was a problem, but we stayed apart enough to not breathe too much dirt. Altitude brought pines and forest for an awesome part of the ride, and a couple of rest stops.

Image

Image

Climbed up for great views back to the desert area.

Image

Image

Headed east to the Sycamore Canyon Overlook for another great view.

Back to the forest and more breaks from riding, or just time to enjoy the views.
Image

Headed north towards Williams via more forest roads with all kinds of history and neat old bridges.

Image

Image

Arriving at Williams, we suddenly found that an abundance of people had left the heat of the Phoenix area to enjoy the Route 66 tourist spot. bumper to bumper traffic cruising the old strip.
Image

Found a place to park the bikes and headed over to Cruiser's Diner.
https://www.cruisers66.com/

Great place and the men's room is even decorated with automotive theme signs, and a VW door as a divider with tail gates to make a stall.
Image

After lunch we headed north towards some clouds and possible rain. :Clap
I was hoping to feel rain so bad, the drought around here has made me dream of riding in the rain.
Rode along the main railroad line for that part of the country for a couple of miles, and was amazed at the amount of rock that had to be moved for this line in the 50's.
This is right above Ashefork Arizona which is home to some of the largest Arizona Flagstone quarries.

While coming back into Ashefork, it did rain on us! Just started to feel it getting through my mesh jacket and start to get my T-shirt wet.... and it stopped.
Watched the fronts skirt around us the entire weekend.

Back to camp after a days ride and food was provided, drinks were consumed, and stories were told.
