Re: Thanksgiving Alternatives
Presented the idea for Prime Rib Thanksgiving to Mrs. Geezer.
She said, "That's nice. Maybe for Christmas.".
"Why?" sez I.
"We're going to my mom's for Thanksgiving."
Dang! It's always turkey there on Thanksgiving.

A remark I use to make about my MIL was that her life's motto is, "Every Silver Lining Has a Cloud". That should give you some idea how the pizza delivery would go over.
Decades of being an "okay" SIL would be down the drain!

Re: Thanksgiving Alternatives
My MIL used to get up at 4 a.m. to start the turkey. A 12 pounder would go in the oven for about 7 hours. She always made a foil sling for the turkey but after the long cook period it would fall apart when you looked at it. FIL never had to carve.
Her gravy was thickened with cornstarch, it would gel as it cooled.
She never used pepper, I had to take my own to dinner. She said pepper accumulates in your stomach during your life, making a bezoar (not her word) that could kill you. For her non-use she ended up with a bowel obstruction.
In order to get some veg into her husband she would put grated carrots in the stuffing, often too many carrots. Sweet stuffing has no business on the holiday table.
She made great desserts so I took over the savory foods and she baked. Her homemade German chocolate cake was to die for. Christmas baking always resulted in enough sweets to last until Easter.
Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving, Condolini.
I remember that pepper thing! Where did people get these ideas from?
My youth was similar. Nobody ever "carved" a turkey. The turkey was more like pulled pork than anything else.
Mrs Geezer is presently in the kitchen doing her pie thing. She makes great pies, But, the kitchen is not a safe place right now.
Happy Thanksgiving to the Banned Camp crew and staff!

Happy Turkey Day to the crew!
My pies are made, pumpkin and pecan (with a shot of bourbon.)
Tried a new pumpkin recipe and didn't read it completely before starting. It wanted me to make the custard, cook it on the stove, and then put it in the pie shell and bake it. Hell no! Did it the old fashioned way.
I saw a recipe for a maple pie but I don't want to use almost a pint of maple syrup just for a pie, that would mean I'd only have a cup left for the winter. My favorite syrup producer won't be back to town until April so I have to make my stash last.

I usually order an extra large pizza on Thanksgiving eve & Christmas eve.
Because none of my local pizza place's are open on Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Re: Thanksgiving Alternatives
For four I've got:
Turkey breast
Stuffing
Mashed taters
Green bean casserole
Roasted butternut squash
Gravy
Cranberry orange bread
Pecan pie
Pumpkin pie
Whipped cream
I'm making the stuff at home and taking it to the relatives to heat. It will be easier than making it there because I don't know where the tools are.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the banned members!

Re: Thanksgiving Alternatives
Leftovers stowed, dishes washed. I'm beat. Humping all the stuff up and down to the basement garage from the second floor is a good workout after the big supper.
Hope you all got your fill of goodies.

Re: Thanksgiving Alternatives
Made it through the inlaw's Thanksgiving. Did the mashed taters, the stove top style stuffing, green bean casserole, candied yams, and a piece of turkey about half the size of a credit card covered in cranberry sauce (to hide the taste). I wonder if that's the reason cranberry sauce is used with turkey (just thinking out loud here).
Left enough room for pie, which was my main objective.
All was good. The cranberry sauce worked fine.

Re: Thanksgiving Alternatives
Okay, woke up this morning and wondered, "What's for breakfast?".
A fair amount of leftover turkey in fridge.
I think, "I'll make a sammich.".
Lots of mayo, it'll be okay.
Didn't like it.
I'm hopeless.

I had T-day reruns last night. It was still good but now it's almost gone.
I've been craving some spaghetti with red sauce, bought some hot Italian links today. Guess I'll drag out the crock pot tomorrow.
