Re: What I did in the garage today
Finished it up yesterday and started it up for a test ride.
No neutral light!
Quick check shows no voltage to cluster. Start tearing it back down... off come the plastics, seat, tank, fairings...
Pinched the harness when I put a bracket back on I had off for the valve cover.
Back together AGAIN! And I have a neutral light, but the USB outlet is dead.
Texted my buddy and ask if this is what it's like to own a KTM.
He said "No, the KLR's are fixable.
Traced out to a simple bad USB socket.
$12.99 later on eBay, it should be here next week.
Now then, about tomorrow?

Re: What I did in the garage today

So my baby trailer that I use to haul the bike and bivouac in had some issues after I replaced the rear jack stabilizers last time after I ripped them off and bent the snot out of them. I replaced said bent crap with more crap that was the cheapest thing I could find.
(please see KLR owners any where on the web)

The cheap ones started to bend again, slipped a couple of times...
Side job money showed up, and I ordered some I hoped were better.

Boy am I impressed!

Some fitting and grinding for the mounting brackets, and I was ready to weld them on.

Ain't the prettiest weld, but it will hold.

And am I a happy camper?

Yeah Baby!

These are ARK stabilizers made in Australia, and etrailer.com imports them. Looked around and I think they're the only ones in the States here with them.

I love the Aussie terms! "Corner steadies"

I wish I could weld like that!campfire wrote: Ain't the prettiest weld, but it will hold.
The few times I've tried, the rod just stuck to the metal

Well I sort of cheat, the wire feed makes life easier. Stick welding is really an art, but my son can stick weld really well.
Then he bought a new TIG welder, and that's even more tricky.

Re: What I did in the garage today
So my window I ordered was delivered and the next trailer project started.

Took the interior trim off and started the layout.

And then arrived at the point of now return.

And it fits!!!
I also added extra 1" tubing for a more rigid frame.
(I like welding stuff together)

Tomorrow, Part II and the interior panel fitting.

Re: What I did in the garage today
Cut out the interior trim panel, sanded it down, ran to the hardware store for sealant....

Got my wife to help me hold the window, but the neighbor was over (who I didn't want to ask to help) and he started making suggestions as in "up on the left a little, your right... yeah, there!"
Guess what's too high on that side.
Oh well, it's sealed and installed.

Now on to the other trailer and more projects.

Almost done cleaning up from the trip.
Cleaned the dust and muck out of the air fliter on the bike.
Now I might just sit and look out the garage door for a while.

Re: What I did in the garage today
So. I pulled the carburetor on my Bunton zero turn apart a couple weeks ago and gave it a good clean. I left it on the healing bench and put in an order for new gaskets which I figured would arrive while I was away for Easter in the Shenandoah and I would put it all together when I got home...
Then I got an email while I was at the Green Valley Book Fair telling me that the minimum order for one of the "gaskets" (actually copper washers) was 5. I only need two, but it is what it is. I tried on my phone to add three. The website using my phone would only let me add 1. With shipping. I did it twice before crying uncle and sending an email asking them to unscrew the count and refund the excess. Phones suck for doing anything useful.
They made the adjustments for me.
After I got home my boss told me no work Friday so I was at my leisure when the gaskets arrived. I spent a couple hours doing a final clean, assembly and install of the carb. Then, because I enjoyed it so much, I installed the carb two more times before I finally got it all settled in and correctly configured. My hands are too big to easily attach the rods and springs in the space available so everything is like eating peanuts with chopsticks: It can be done, but you won't enjoy it. The problem I was trying to fix was surging at idle and poor choke function. That now appears to be resolved.
Today I will change the oil and see if it is up to mowing a couple acres. Hopefully, I won't have to pull it out of the mud with my truck too many times.

Re: What I did in the garage today
All these years I thought it was a Yamaha triples thing. But, apparently, all carburetors need to be cleaned three times.
It wouldn't start and it filled the carb body and air intake with fuel when I went to change the oil and mow. So apart it came for another clean and inspection. After I assembled it and put it back on and it did it again... I hit it repeatedly (gently, really) figuring the float needle needed to be shocked into a free state after having been turned this way and that during assembly and install.
That did it. The thing starts up easier than it has in years and ran great.
