I haven't had any luck trying to see them. The astronomy forums are full of folks reporting how they ruin photo sessions etc.

Let us know if you spot them :thumb

NOpe, didn't see them. :dontknow
Might have been looking to far north, or the Bay Area light pollution is too bad to let them shine enough.
I'll try again.

I went up on the mountain last week to try to see northern lights , no luck with that but I did see an extremely bright solid light going from southwest to north east and shortly after that a series of satellites all in an evenly spaced row , along with lots of other random satellites . Figured the bright one was space station , no idea what the other was .

I wonder if they were the starlink satellites?

I keep getting up at 1:00-4:00 am to catch a glimpse, but the fog rolls in every night now and clouds things up.
:wall

:DirtDOG Might have to go camping in the hills away from the lights and fog.

Got up twice last night and went out to see the perseid meteor shower, at an elevation of 57' and close to urban light, if was not the best.

But I did see some! :Clap 3:00 AM seem to be the best.

Well I did get to see any this year..
Nature just wouldn't let me see..

That's OK ...
As I said else where what ever I see will never beat the time in Ada Oklahoma .

Laying on the over hang of the GMC dump truck and watching the show.
It was spectacular !

Then the Yotes and coy dogs came to the barns on the track and killed 2 goats .That was a ruckus!
We got down to chase them , Almost got attacked by them , holding a horse that got loose !
Nothing like seeing white teeth and a growling coydog , while some 2yrs horse is not keeping it's feet on the ground !!

Yeah it was a hell of a night ..

So I see the meteor shower would be good in our area on the 13th, and decided to get away up to the hills for a better view. We have some BLM land that is open for motorized use, and there's a couple of free campgrounds up there. Head out of town and the weather isn't too bad and it should be clear.

Drive up and make camp with the little trailer for some shelter.
Image

And with my handy little tripod for the iPhone, I played with the 10 second exposure on "night mode".

Looking south towards the Bay Area.... including reflected vapor trails of jet airplanes.

Image

Couldn't catch any of the meteors with the phone camera, but the jets were fun.

Image

Saw at least one good trail every five minutes or so, even a couple of big doubles. Then there were clusters of small blips that would last 5-10 seconds.
