I have the other issue. :patch

When there's something I can't find, I know it's officially missing.

Today I went to change the blown headlight bulb in the car, fumbled a bit, and managed to snap the plastic mounting tang off the connector. :wall

It's a Fiat-specific part, it both physically holds the H7 bulb in the headlight fitting, and electrically connects the two wires. So no generic aftermarket connector works.

Lucky I was sitting down when I rang Mr Fiat... the parts guy cheerfully quoted me $500+ for this 10c piece of plastic... along with a lead time of several months... :eek

But my day improved! The wrecking yard I visited this afternoon couldn't be bothered doing the paperwork for such a tiny part, and gave it to me! :wings

More lathe time today!! :wings

Practiced my external & internal thread cutting the last couple of days. :nod

Made a nice hollow little aluminum gizmo thing, :patch
It "turned" out nice, threads are good, so I moved on to another cap for a friend's highway pegs. He said he needed one but didn't want to pay the $27 for a replacement.
I turned this one out, and then shipped it off to him in Florida. Should be delivered on Tuesday, waiting on the response. :thumb

Random acts of kindness for people is my mantra this week. Just not relatives.

And that light has been on for MONTHS! .... :DirtDOG

And you need to get it fixed now because the smog inspection is due.... :wall

AND..... :whipme You want me to do this so some other guy can fix it.... :patch

And you want me to do it for free. :finger

I ignored the text, climbed in the car with my wife and off we went to run our planned errands. :thumb

Ducati parts coming from several directions , that reminds me I need to get a set of belts headed this way too . Mounting new tires on cast wheels , new chain off a scrapped bike , new clutch slave cylinder and fluid flush , oil and filter change , new brake pads , I might even wash it when I’m done . This is the most work I’ve done to this bike since I bought it 7 or 8 years ago .

They make a pill for that. You don't have to get a new tool.

Greased the wheel bearings on my 80s flatbed trailer and welded some extra tie down points on it , built before the chinese invasion . need to put a set of tires on it . Kids are going to load my daughters jeep on it and come up to Wyoming for a few days this summer . The tires that came on it have full tread but they are over 30 years old , a few minor sidewall cracks but otherwise just fine . Ok for short trips around home but I don’t think they would make it to wyoming and back . I’ll put new tires on it then pull them off next winter and put the old ones back on and put the new ones on my trailer , it’s about ready for replacements , every 5 years or so . Might put new hubs on it next winter too , it’s a different bolt pattern and swapping tires to new wheels is a pain .

So! :DirtDOG

I've been wanting a bench top Drill/Mill for a very long time. Keep my eyes on auctions, Craigslist, FB Market place, word of mouth, :fp but no luck so far.
Limited space in the garage has it narrowed down to a couple of old "Mini" ENCO's, Grizzly's, Rong Fu's, or Atlas units. One pops up in Pacifica, and it's listed with tooling, collets, and two vises. It's a 1978 Jet Model 16, and I start :drool
:thumb
Call, I'm third in line, think I missed it, but he calls me back and the other two have flaked out. He says it's the size of the ENCO's, and the pictures are up close but wide angle. Can't really tell the size, but it looks great.
I load up the trailer and head out on Saturday (first strike) of Mother's Day weekend (second strike) to the OTHER side of San Francisco.
:fp
Warm weather is calling everyone to every beach around. :wall
What should be an hour and a half drive turns into three with the WORST traffic I've seen in the city in years. :finger
Fog is still around and makes for a cool looking drive over.

Image

Get there and it's NOT a "mini" mill, it's really a "mid size". To me, it's HUGE! Not a full size knee mill, but I ask for a tape measure.
46.75" from the back of the motor to the tip of the knob in front. This thing would stick out PAST the workbench 18". :patch
Level headed thinking prevails and I pass on it, I tell him it just won't work.
"But what do you want for just the vise?" I ask.
"$50 with the handle, but it needs cleaning."
Vintage Bridgeport 6" vise staring at me that I see all the time for sale.... for $200-400 !!!
Dumbfound by the deal in front of me, I just stare at it.
Then he pipes up, "but I feel bad you drove all this way for nothing.... give me $20 and it's yours" :wings :Clap

Image

Trip wasn't a total loss, but it took me three hours to get home too.
Cleaning next week.

A great find! :Clap

How did you lift it?

The mill vices I've seen have been scary heavy. Good for working stability but terrible for my elbows/back when moving them.
