Coffee / Tea

Coffee and tea... almost like religion to many of us.

Both can be a slippery slope... with coffee many go through different machines, grinders, beans etc., often ending up roasting beans on the back porch each morning prior to grinding and brewing.

Tea can be worse. It's true that really good tea will last all day with re-brews, smoky flavours and subtle changes across the day, but the world of pur-eh (spelling?) tea can take you into the $$$$ literally. It's like red wine, buy it cheap and age it, or if someone else ages it you pay $$$$.

So, how do you take yours? What's your favourite brew?

For me, it's coffee. Crazy-strong, black, thick. :DukeGirl

Made on the gas stovetop. The fancy cafe espresso machines are literally this machine upside down. Same physics, water going through the grounds under pressure, time/pressure/size of grounds affecting the output.

I have no idea when the Italians (?) invented these miracles but I luv 'em for doing so:

I have one of them somewhere... :dontknow
I knew where it was 11 yrs ago.. But not now... :fp

Tea... for many years I drank the green Japanese powdered tea (not the leaves).

It turned out to be a great conversation starter and way of meeting interesting girls actually (!)... turns out many chicks love tea, love guys who drink it, and are more than happy to come and try a pot especially if you sell it right. :thumb

Now tea can be interesting. How about a pinch of the leaves lasting you all day, with multiple re-brews? And en entire year's worth of this aged tea costing only a few bucks even if you drink tea all day every day?

There's another world too... aged, expensive teas. $$$$ per lb.

A couple of interesting articles if this strikes your fancy:

The art of tea

Aged and potentially expensive teas

They are brilliant.

When you buy them they are sized in 'cups'. Take note the Italian word for cup appears to equal the English word for tiny sip. About 60ml (+/- 2 fluid ounces) per 'cup'.

3 cup = not enough for one person

6 cups = I can get a mug out of it, or 3 espresso tiny cups.

Not a problem, you just gotta buy the right one.

Couldn't do coffee for years. Instant stomach cramps. This coincided with the heavy drinking period in life. Since being sober I can enjoy coffee again.
