I read where Baldy took him in as a fellow techy to help, then sold it or gave ADV to him and he is now the owner and super operator of ADV....I may be wrong due to all the fog surrounding and hearsay of this topic..doin my best to help spread the hearsay I guess... :finger

Rudy is who told me that he is taking ADV to a more PC place. And he is looking at limiting nopaying members from the flea market and Jomamma

When that happens he'll lose the site. Traffic will plummet.

Max Millender founded the VRodForum in '04. I was member #5 ( he lives a couple miles from me). It was my first forum experience. There were ups and downs, but I made a lot of true friends through the forum and the resultant Rallys held N of Kansas City every year (for 10 years). In spite of sponsoring factory tours every year the MoCo insisted that we change the name of the forum, as V-Rod was "proprietary". :eek Renamed to 1130cc.com. Max sold the forum to verticalscope and paid off the mortgage on his house. There are probably less than a dozen left there. I "moderate" the "bagger" section. Not much going on. It may be that forums have a life span.

Recreational forums are incredibly hard to monetise; usually for long-lasting successful forums there is a vendor who chooses to fund all costs so as to preserve the related community and keep goodwill 'high' in an often [but not always] ever-shrinking user base.

When a website or forum sells for mortgage-payout type sums, the incoming buyer wants a return. The result is often just as you describe.

There are only a few ways to make money from a forum; advertising, affiliate sales, or user-pays. All three are tough to succeed with...
