Basket Case rebuild

So, an acquaintance of mine who I see at coffee once in a while has a GS. I run into him last year just before Thanksgiving and he asks............ "Did you hear about my bike? The clutch went out, and I'm thinking of selling it. Tired of riding at my age."
I tell him if he's serious, give me a call. I might need a winter project.
I run into him again (with the wife this time) and he starts in with "I'm ready, need you to get it out of my life. Package deal, everything I have for the bike goes with it. Oh! Sorry, does she know about it?" As he looks at my wife.
We talk a bit more, and then I head out for a walk with the wife. And explain how "good of a deal" this could be.
Cutting to the chase, she let me buy it.
I went over to pick it up and his driveway looked like a garage sale. Luckily I took the trailer.
Boots, gloves, manuals, extra parts, original parts, tire machine, balancer, wheel weights, bungee cords, battery tender, charge cords, USB converters, maps, stuff sacks......... everything.

Even included a lift and a whole bunch of tools

BUT...
Don't you always love those?
The "clutch" turned out to be a little more.

So a transmission overhaul started.

Working on it just short of two months, waiting for parts (the shaft had to come from Germany), and watching WAY too many YouTube videos to learn how to take a GS apart . . . . . .
It started to go back together.

And it worked!~
Finished it up this week and took it for a quick test ride around the block. Then I registered and insured it, and took a longer test ride.
With some good but cold Nor Cal weather. Headed out to the coast and Bodega Bay for some clam chowder.

Then, headed up Hwy 1. I love that road.

So now I'm a GS owner, and yes, I even rode it to Starbucks today to meet up with some other retired old farts.
Later peeps.
