You have to know the government has no idea WHERE to build a useful dam, so anything they build will only serve to worsen any existing issues.

We have not built a new dam in my entire lifetime... our population has doubled in that time... water is literally the most basic level of infrastructure but it gets ignored.

Farmers are actually taxed if they use small dams to collect rainfall on their land (compensating water supply government departments for lost revenue).

Sadly, we have several rivers that dump enough water out to sea each day, that could supply large cities like Sydney for a year. Yet instead of dams, we built a 'desalination plant' that costs kazillions per year when sitting idle, and much more when turned on...

Water is one topic that literally no politician (here) seems to have the foggiest clue about.

Weather-guessers claim our first 100°F/37C day could be here in about a week.

...and that is about *three weeks* earlier than our previous record.

Over here, a few years back our gov't hired a 'climate change czar' with a $1m salary... what a lurk where do I sign up?

His biggest claim to fame was convincing politicians (on all sides) that it would "never rain again".

They believed him, and cancelled several planned storage dams for drinking water etc., and even some planned flood-mitigation dams (although really they just delay things a bit, and do nothing for major floods, simple physics).

Anyway he took his salary and did a runner after a few years on the gravy train. And here we are... today finally a 2nd sunny day after a couple of weeks of heavy rain. In QLD the flooding is over 7m in some towns (21'+). In the NT some towns have been evacuated not due to the water but due to the big crocodiles that may be in the water!

There is a dam trying to be built in Wyoming , there was a earth leave there and a mud hole since early last century . So some scammer decided to build a resort community on a dry creek . Lots are already offered for sale . Dont know if any suckers have stepped up yet but the upfront investors are going to take a major hit , starting into the third year of construction this spring . The dam is built , spillways and lots of earth work but still very little water , maybe a couple acres and its a dry creek except during the spring snow melt or a heavy rain event . And the mountain snow is a few feet below average this year so far . Last year they laid a 24 inch pipeline from the existing Shell canal to the new resivoir , about 15 miles . Not quite sure what the purpose of it is , the valley with the new dam has never had enough water to support agriculture since the beginning of time and the Shell valley is maxed out on the amount of water available for it , they are already into somebodys pockets for a couple hundred million , sure doesnt look sanitary to me

Snow today with 40-60 mile/hr wind. Supposed to be 9 degrees tonight and windy. Then Wednesday 70 and mid 80's for Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Typical late winter, early spring in Nebraska. Also have multiple rangeland fires burning in central and western Nebraska. The largest has burned 500,000 acres so far.

83 here today and it seems everything is blooming. They are still trimming vines, but I expect to see some buds on them soon.
Got some yard work done today, but it's almost too hot.
