I need to highlight my cell phone is an older model, and does not have 5G tech in it. It was made before 5G was thought of.

This is 4G cellular, last night at a friend's house. :wings

Lightning hit their fibre-optic internet wire and house, it literally blew up their modem along with a few power circuits, hot water, etc... I used my phone to share internet so they could find electricians and insurance etc.

I nearly fell off my chair when I ran the speed test. Did it several times, I was in disbelief. :eek

I must have been the only one in the area connecting to the that tower?

No idea what's happening - it shows that I do not have permission to view the image from my own post? WTF?

The screenshot originally uploaded showed over 130 Mbps internet speed :drool

A couple of months ago I got an email from Spectrum telling me that they had doubled my service at no cost. I already had 100mbps. I did not find any difference in speed so I started looking through my set up.

I checked each of my routers and they all are capable of gigabit speed. I know some of my cabling is CAT5, so I set out to replace a couple runs. Then I remembered that I had a dumb switch in the basement that I got free from somewhere, somewhen. I checked it and it was only 10/100 mbps. I ordered a replacement.

I got the pieces and parts reset and going and my phone shows the shiny new speed at all access points.

But my computer and NAS did not see the new speed. A little research and I find that both came from the factory with built in 10/100 mbps network ports. So I ordered new cards for both. Ooooh. Shiny!

It's the same RG 6U coaxial cable that they installed back in 2005 when I finally convinced them to run the cable feed two more houses down the road so I could get off dial-up. Beyond that I don't know what their infrastructure looks like. :dontknow

They have been extending cable like crazy around here the last year. It's hard to tell people they have to do school, or work, online when there is no internet available for a large number of them. As in: No cable in their area, no working DSL (too far from the CO), no cell coverage.

The schools (and many others) were a bit surprised that so many of the kids weren't digitally connected. It seems that there is a whole big world out there that isn't just like the one that they think they live in... :fp

I remember twenty yrs ago GW Bush mentioned that broadband internet services needed to extend out into rural America and on his watch he was going to allocate funds to make it happen. As we all know, it didn't. Just recently, within the last month, they finally got fiber optic cable strung up out here so there is excitement in the air here. It won't be but another 3 or 4 more months before we are hooked up to high speed internet. :wings

Until then tho, I shall suffer and endure with stoopit Hughenet..be sure to warn everyone you know about the hughesnet scam that I am suffering thru. :wall

Doc I hope you play the game and get 20 bucks off your bill ..
Each month for 3 months than pay the $62 .than get it dropped again
I really didn't mind hughesnet... It was better than dial up...
Version Mifi that was really bad...

We are still liking this Point BroadBan... 96 a month for Phone & Internet .. We don't pay for TV anymore.
When they had all the drop calls they took 10 off each months bill...for 3 months.

Started watching a show on my computer in my office and it started buffering the other night. The computer in here is on our wireless network and I was wondering if it was wired, how much better it could be. Climbed under the house this morning, drill a hole in the floor of the office, stretch some CAT5 from another source...
Over Doubled it!!!
