Whats your NET speed?

Post by drlewall »

I am on HUGHESNET and I can tell you first hand, IT SUX!

My Hughesnet went down earlier this week and when the tech came out to fix it, he told me about a speed test site, TESTMY dot NET (http://www.testmy.net" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

My results are AWFUL! My best speed so far has been 8.2 Mbps..worst was 768Kbps (0.8Mbps)

They are charging me $100 a month for slow ass internet..yeah my life sux :gramps

I have a 4G cellular connection. It's peak evening time here, so it's slow... 20Mbs down, 1Mbs up.

If I run the test again in a couple of hours, I will get 40 / 15 roughly, so something akin to to Campfire's.

As a price comparison, I pay Au$90/m [US $65 +/-] for 100Gb. Currently with Covid that's doubled to 200Gb as a freebie.

Doc you have distance-to-cell-tower issues, if I understand things right. So this might not work for you.

I have a sneaky trick. This happens so regularly I am at a loss for any other explanation.

ISP's throttle and allocate speeds to manage demand. Sometimes I cannot get a simple webpage to load, e.g. Banned Camp. My solution is to open the speed test for that specific ISP... funny thing it always shows me a nice reasonable speed, sometimes I have to run it twice to trigger their 'alert' or 'programming' or whatever you want to call it...

... if I then go to the other tab that wouldn't load at all, hey presto :thumb :lol8
