I'll start then, shall I? :kat

Red wine, french cheese, nuts, port, sherry, with some fancy 'artisan' biscuits (crackers) and some dried fruit.

Oh the cheese and grog has to be the good stuff.

Gazillions of calories but oh my, heaven... :happy

My wife makes a pesto mac and cheese. The pesto is made from scratch with basal from her garden. It tastes soooo good, so it can't be good for me. :lol8

Yeah who invented that?

Great taste = bad for us.

Horrific smell / taste = very good for us.

Remember the smells of the 'health food' shops in the 1970's / 80's?

Marketing is responsible for a lot of evil. Do a little research on the actual history and science of food and you will find out that there is nothing wrong with lard and butter but we were convinced that they were evil so companies could sell hydrogenated vegetable oils with seven secret herbs and chemicals at a greater profit. Diet soda and fake sugars are another mess that is slowly revealing itself.

If you pay attention, you will notice that certain fruits and vegetables suddenly become the fad of the year. Out of nowhere every restaurant is pushing kale and kale recipes are all the rage in cooking shows. Next year it is avocados. And on and on.

Then there are the constant stories about how this food is now determined to be bad for you "A new study finds..."
If you actually look up the study you will find it is being misreported and doesn't find what the reporters say it finds. It's all a circus. And it has been going on for decades.

A couple years ago I heard a breathless report that multi-vitamins are worthless "A new study finds..." I looked up the study. The study found that multi-vitamins did not appear to reduce CANCER rates in regular users. That is what it found. So the press reported that multi-vitamins are worthless, they don't work. I was unaware that multi-vitamins were understood to be a prophylactic for cancer, I just thought they were for making sure you got all your vitamins so you felt better and didn't get sick as often. :dontknow

100% especially re news articles. I have worked in both commercial media (radio) and also in research universities, and have seen exactly this.

Interestingly my friend is a naturopath and an old-fashioned one. He has many such topics to discuss.

The best part of his approach is that he still looks for the 'cause' of patient issues, and addresses those, rather than treating the symptoms.

He looks for causation? What kind of antiquarian nonsense is that? He'd have to actually talk to his patients and spend time with them. That's just crazy talk. Ain't nobody got time for that.

Back to the comfort foods...

... summer is almost here! And today was strawberries and double-thick cream to dip them in! Yum! :DukeGirl

And, somewhat bizarrely, such a meal is good for you according to the 'keto' diet fad :wings (which does nothing for me, but it stops my beloved from complaining)

No pics 'cause I ate the entire tub of strawberries in just a few minutes :peepwall

Here's an internet pic to give you the idea + to get you drooling a little bit :thumb

Heaven!

Oops, I mean Baklava! They come in many shapes.

A middle eastern / mediterranean treat. I am sure several countries claim it as theirs.

Pastry, nuts, honey, pistachios.

Baklava + black coffee = heaven :DukeGirl
