New home page at AdvRider

Post by MrKiwi »

Baldy and Rudy have created a new home page at AdvRider and made a homepage forum too so those that don't want the new fluffy stuff can continue to use the site as before.

The new home page doesn't require a login unless you want leave a comment on reviews.

I like it, but some of the old crusties don't.

Some have already been banned for the level of vitriol in their comments. I get it when people don't like something, but why get so worked up about it?

So easy to ignore it, why bother with the bitching and moaning. :fp

I don't get it either...
Ya don't like something on a free site ..
Just move on and try to fix it the way ya want it..

That's why I put up the little "how to" post in VTB..

Ta help those that are not 'puter savvy ...

The slower connections, are issues for some ..
And I do fall in that slow connection to the internet ......

I hope it helped the one that also fell in to that...Or don't like change... :thumb

Huh. When was this? I go to the WTF picture page and the gif page almost daily. Been at the thread about that notorious douche @teamvegas almost every day too. Haven't noticed any change. :dontknow

Of course, I just click on the tabs in my browser where I have those pages already up. And I am pretty sure I've never even been to whatever page you get at advrider.com. So, I can see why people would be throwing hissy fits.

It is not something that actually matters and it's 2018. So obviously, people are losing their damned minds over it. :fp

Meh, just an extra click for me, until I get around to changing my bookmark. Don't see the big deal. But begs the question, how long until they get rid of the less "respectable" parts of the forum?

As I was once told about something I was really upset about...

"Is it something you're going to laying on your deathbed thinking about or regretting?"

I'm just regretting working so much in retirement and not riding enough.

I use the 10% rule:

10% of what people are freaking out about right now will matter in an hour. Of that remaining 10%, only 10% will matter tomorrow. Of that 10%, only 10% will matter in a week. Of that remainder, only 10% will matter in a month...

Most of what people insist on getting worked up about is self-inflicted nonsense. They need the drama. And they need you to share it with them... :fp

I will pass, thanks.

I don't worry and fret about shit , if I can do something about it I do . if it's something I have no control whatsoever I don't waste time worring about it . When I've got something needing delt with I'll think about it for a while till everything is straight in my head then deal with it and make it right . Course it's taken me well over 60 years to figure that shit out . But it took me less than ten minuets to make adv the way I wanted to see it and I'm a computer dumbass .

So I head over for my morning ADV WTF Picture Thread and I have two new alerts. I go to my alerts page and one is from ADV, a bit of alert SPAM. How nice.

The alert SPAM tells me "Free ADV Merch! Support ADV with a site subscription and get a free adventure rider t-shirt". Hmm. So I click the link and there are the supporter levels and a list of perks per each.

Now, one of my pet peeves is marketing wank. I have taken to looking up companies on Wikipedia instead of going to company websites because company websites are written by marketers. And I go looking for third party reviews of products instead of going to manufacturers websites if I want to learn about what the product is and does.

Marketers are constitutionally incapable of communicating useful information. They are very skilled at telling you how wonderful and life changing the something is, but in 500 words of doing that they can still manage to never actually tell you what the something is that they are trying to sell you or what its function is. It is truly a talent. :eek

Apparently, ADV had a marketer do up the supporter tiles.

What in the hell is a "Banner Free Experience"? Does that mean you don't see the shame flags on other supporters avatars anymore? Is it protection against fellow inmates turning green and swollen when they get angry at you? No idea. It's not like it's possible to make the list item a hyperlink to an explanation of the benefit. Maybe with http 3.0 they will be able to do that. I hear they are making incredible progress with web tech these days.

And I am also curious about this "New member instant approval" thing. Is it like having black ball powers over the noobs? Is ADV making hazing cool again? Or, does it mean you can instantly have a spare persona in case your main one gets banned? Sorta like indulgences back in the day?

Maybe I should send some PMs to those who have coughed up support funds and remind them they need to get their New member instant approval" of their fake noobs soon because it can only be done during the "open season". :lol8
